Are you a fan of Mexican food and love fresh, sizzling fajitas? Well, so do we here at El Tapatio! And, much to our excitement, there’s never a better time to stop into your favorite Merrimack restaurant than on August 18th, which is National Fajita Day! Yes, a day dedicated solely to the wonderful, sizzling, flavorful fajita. We’re getting hungry just thinking about it!
Tacos are cool, but fajitas are amazing. Here’s why.
Taco vs. Fajita
If you’re not too familiar with Mexican food, you might be wondering the difference between a fajita and a taco. They’re similar enough, right? Many people are often confused because both meals involve a meat filling with various toppings like salsa, guac and sour cream.
A fajita refers to the filling itself as it means “little sash” in Spanish. Typically, a fajita is made from carne asada, which is also known as skirt steak. This tougher cut of meat is marinated, sliced against the grain, and grilled. However, chicken and shrimp are also common substitutes for those who shy away from red meat. Once cooked to perfection, the meat is accompanied with a variety of grilled vegetables, served on a sizzling platter with warm tortillas and a variety of toppings.
Tacos, on the other hand, are usually more versatile. Tacos are made from various types of meat and provide a different flavoring from the smokey hue of the fajita. Further, toppings are often raw. For example, shredded lettuce and tomatoes are popular choices!
