Easy Guacamole Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- ½ jalapeño, seeded and minced
- ¼ cup lime juice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cumin
- ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop out the insides. Mash them in a large bowl until there are no big chunks but they are still a little lumpy. Next, add the onion, cilantro, jalapeño, lime juice, salt, cumin, and garlic powder. Mix everything until well combined and all the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the mashed avocados. Your guacamole is ready to serve! Put it on your homemade tacos or quesadillas, or dig in with your favorite tortilla chips.
Keeping It Fresh
Everyone knows the one drawback of guacamole is that it turns brown really quickly, even if you put it in the fridge. So, how do you keep your leftover guac from turning brown? Here are a few tips for keeping it fresh:
- Make sure you use an airtight container when you put your guacamole in the fridge.
- Press a piece of plastic wrap into the surface of the guac to make it extra airtight.
- When you store the guacamole, instead of plastic wrap, add a layer of water, lime, or lemon juice (just enough to cover the surface). The liquid will protect the guacamole from the air. Before eating it again, pour the liquid off or mix it in.
- Guacamole will stay fresh in the fridge for about three days, but you can also freeze it. It will last for about two months in the freezer.
